Turn Landscape Video into Shorts

Reframe any horizontal video into the vertical 1080x1920 format that Shorts, TikTok, and Reels expect, and cut several clips into one short on a simple timeline. Frame each clip your way (crop with an optional facecam strip, or fit over a blurred background), join them with transitions, and finish with your own branding. The live 9:16 preview matches the final render, and it can show each app's buttons and captions over the video so nothing important ends up underneath them.

What you get

Several clips, one short

Add up to 8 videos, then trim, split, reorder and delete on a timeline. Each clip keeps its own framing, and new clips start from the one you just set up.

Transitions

Fade, dip to black, flash, blur, slide, wipe, zoom, circle and pixelate, with the length you choose. The preview blends them the way the render does.

Crop mode with a real crop box

Drag and resize the crop region over your footage, with 9:16 aspect lock, snapping guides, and undo.

Facecam layout and your own divider

Stack your webcam above or below the gameplay, and put a strip with your name or logo on the seam between them.

A finisher on every short

Save an end card with your Twitch, Discord or YouTube links, or your own outro video, and it's added to every short you make.

See what the app covers

Lay a mock TikTok, Reels or Shorts interface over the preview to check the caption, buttons and profile row don't hide anything that matters.

Fit mode with blurred fill

Keep the whole frame and fill the vertical space with a blurred copy (intensity adjustable) or clean black bars, plus a zoom control up to 300%.

Frequently asked questions

▸How do I make a gaming clip with my facecam on top?

Use crop mode and turn on the facecam option: one box selects the gameplay region, a second box selects your webcam, and you choose whether the cam strip sits at the top or bottom of the vertical frame.

▸Can I combine several clips into one short?

Yes. Add up to 8 videos, cut them into as many as 12 clips, reorder them, and join them with cuts or transitions. Each clip can be framed differently.

▸Can I add an end screen with my links to every short?

Yes. Design a finisher card with your channel links (or pick your own outro video) and save it. Saved finishers are added to every new short automatically, and you can switch one off for a single short.

▸What is the blurred background style called?

It is usually called blurred fill: the video is fitted inside the vertical frame and a blurred, zoomed copy of itself fills the space behind it. Use fit mode with the blur toggle; the intensity is adjustable.

▸What resolution do YouTube Shorts need?

9:16 vertical, ideally 1080x1920, which is exactly what the converter outputs.

▸Can I convert just part of a long video?

Yes. Trim each clip on its own timeline before rendering, so you never process more than you need.

▸Is there a file size limit?

Free accounts can upload files up to 1 GB per file. Pro raises the limit to 3 GB and Premium to 5 GB. File Transfer has its own, much higher limits: 10 GB per transfer on Pro and 100 GB on Premium.

▸Why are there length and size limits?

GrumpTools is in beta and runs on a small amount of hardware, so every limit you see is set to what can genuinely finish rather than to what sounds good. We would rather tell you up front than take your file and fail an hour later. These caps are the first thing we raise as the userbase grows and we add capacity, and paid plans are what fund that, so the limits move up over time instead of down.

▸What happens to my files?

Files are processed on our servers and deleted automatically within 24 hours. They are never shared, published, or used for anything except running the job you asked for. The one exception is transcription: the Transcript Generator and Auto Subtitles send your audio (never the video, and never your account details) to our speech-to-text provider, Groq, which returns the text. See our Privacy Policy for the full list of processors.
