SRT and VTT export
Download the edited captions as a standard .srt or .vtt file straight from the review screen — upload to YouTube as closed captions or restyle in any editor, no burn required.
Word-perfect timing
Whisper AI produces word-level timestamps, so captions land precisely as words are spoken.
12 animated styles
Pop, Hormozi, Bold, Typewriter, Karaoke, Highlight, One Word, Focus, Caption Box, Bouncy, Neon, and Spotlight, each with its own font and animation.
Your color, size, position
Curated accent swatches plus a full color picker, text size from 60% to 160%, and a position slider for exact placement.
Edit the text before rendering
Fix a misheard word, delete a line, or add one at the playhead; the timing stays word-accurate.
True WYSIWYG preview
The browser preview runs the same caption components the renderer burns in, so the style you see is the style you ship.
Re-style without re-uploading
Change the style or color and re-render from the same upload and transcript.
▸What does burned-in mean?
The captions become part of the video image itself, like the captions you see on TikTok and Reels. They display everywhere, cannot be turned off, and need no separate subtitle file.
▸Can I fix mistakes in the captions?
Yes. Before rendering you can edit any line's text, delete lines, or add a new line at the playhead, and the word-level timing is preserved.
▸What caption styles are there?
12 presets: Pop, Hormozi, Bold, Typewriter, Karaoke, Highlight, One Word, Focus, Caption Box, Bouncy, Neon, and Spotlight. Each has curated accent colors plus a custom color picker.
▸Is there a video length limit?
Yes. Burning captions into the video is capped at 15 minutes, at up to 60fps. Longer content is best captioned with an SRT file from our Transcript Generator, which handles up to 90 minutes on Premium (30 on Pro, 15 free) and has no render step.
▸What counts toward the daily limit?
Each video you transcribe and each render counts as one, so changing the style and rendering again uses another. Pro includes 40 a day and Premium 120.
▸Should I use burned-in captions or an SRT file?
Burned-in for short-form and social (TikTok, Shorts, Reels) where style drives retention; an SRT track for long-form YouTube where viewers toggle captions. Our Transcript Generator produces SRT files.
▸Is there a file size limit?
Free accounts can upload files up to 1 GB per file. Pro raises the limit to 3 GB and Premium to 5 GB. File Transfer has its own, much higher limits: 10 GB per transfer on Pro and 100 GB on Premium.
▸Why are there length and size limits?
GrumpTools is in beta and runs on a small amount of hardware, so every limit you see is set to what can genuinely finish rather than to what sounds good. We would rather tell you up front than take your file and fail an hour later. These caps are the first thing we raise as the userbase grows and we add capacity, and paid plans are what fund that, so the limits move up over time instead of down.
▸What happens to my files?
Files are processed on our servers and deleted automatically within 24 hours. They are never shared, published, or used for anything except running the job you asked for. The one exception is transcription: the Transcript Generator and Auto Subtitles send your audio (never the video, and never your account details) to our speech-to-text provider, Groq, which returns the text. See our Privacy Policy for the full list of processors.
