What the conversion actually does
The clip is rendered at 12 frames per second and up to 480 pixels wide, and a colour palette is generated from your actual footage before encoding. That second pass matters: GIF only holds 256 colours, and building the palette from the real frames instead of a generic one is the difference between a clean loop and a banded, muddy mess.
Worth knowing first
GIF has no compression between frames, so file size grows with resolution and length rather than with how much is moving. Conversions are capped at 30 seconds for that reason; trim a longer clip with the Video Trimmer first. If you need audio or full quality, you want MP4, not GIF.
